Your journey
The following outline is based on the published trip format. The lead guide makes the final daily route decisions in response to conditions and the group.
Meet in Nanaimo, complete equipment checks and travel to the trailhead. Start hiking through forest and across the suspension bridge to Mystic Beach; time and tides may allow progress toward Bear Beach.
Make the tide-dependent passages and challenging coastal terrain en route to Bear Beach.
A particularly demanding section with repeated ups and downs, mud and creek gullies.
Forest, creek crossings and the Loss Creek suspension bridge, then into Sombrio Beach.
Coastal sections around Minute Creek, Kuitshe Cove and Parkinson Creek lead toward the forested camp at Payzant Creek.
Finish the trail near Botanical Beach, with time for tide pools as conditions allow, then return to Nanaimo.
